Iraq War Casualties…versus abortions
By Wylie on Oct 12, 2008 8:23 pm in Catholic, Politics, Pro-Life
Many of you who are against the war in Iraq, are at the same time cooperating, if only in the voting booth, in a war that is killing millions of babies while still in their mothers’ wombs. You are voting for politicians who are willing to allow babies to die by their support of pro-abortion legislation.
Is the Iraq war an unjust war? There can be reasonable arguments on both sides of that question. However, in the war against the unborn in the womb there are no reasonable arguments on the side of killing babies, only false information, peer and/or parental pressures, selfish desires, a lack of responsibliity, greed, and fear mongering.
Do not quote me the law. Do not tell me about the so-called constitutional right to choose. If a government refuses to protect its weakest citizens by failing to give them the most basic of human rights, the right to life, is it any wonder that so many within our society seem to care little for their neighbor? Even common courtesies in speech and behavior are disappearing at an alarming rate.
Eighty years ago every Christian denomination was pro-life. Today, only the Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, and a remnant within the Protestant denominations still abide by the words of Jesus where He says, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these (Matthew 19:14).” I would say abortion is the ultimate hindrance.
Even though the Catholic Church is and always has been absolutely 100% unequivocally pro-life, far too many of its members try to justify, through some kind of mind-twisting illusion, that life issues are no more important than any other social issue; and therefore, they do not have to vote to protect life. They could not be farther from the truth.
The facts are these, as stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: #2271- Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:
You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.
God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.
The bishops in the United States have, in essence, said that concerns for poverty, immigration, or other social issues cannot take precedence over life issues. The right-to-life is fundamental with all other social issues being secondary to life.
You do not have to believe me. Read some of what the bishops have said here and in a previous post here.
By the way, a pro-choice Christian (Catholic or Protestant) is an oxymoron (contradictory terms). You cannot be both. You decide: stand with Jesus or stand with Planned “Ending” Parenthood and other abortion providers and supporters.
If you vote for a pro-abortion candidate when there is an alternative as there almost always is, especially in this presidential election, you are pro-choice. Don’t try to spin it any other way. If you consider yourself a Christian and gleefully vote pro-choice, you should be ashamed to cross (pun intended) the threshold of your church’s front door.
For America to reclaim the moral high ground she must start with protecting life and start with this election, she must.
If only we had had the U.S. military protecting the rights of the unborn in 1973 instead of the U.S. Supreme Court eliminating those rights.
Take courage, my friend.

WOW. I am 100% Christian and 100% against people such as yourself that try to scare people into voting Republican by claiming they are going against God himself. God is on the side of love and is not republican or democrat. When will Christians break out of their simple minded Black and White world? While I am pro-life and recognize that particular issue does not fall on the side of love, I also realize there is much more at stake here. There are so many other issues to consider outside of abortion and this year more than any other these issues should not be ignored by simply filing candidates under pro or against abortion. And PLEASE do not misrepresent the good book, by twisting its message to fit YOUR agenda (Matt.19:14) that quote is vaguely associated to the issue of abortion at best. I love God and I love my country…the question is do I love both enough to make an EDUCATED decision based upon ALL the issues.

WOW, interesting comment.
100% Christian, I guess that is better than 50% Christian but what does 100% Christian mean?
My post didn’t seem to scare you, why do you think it would scare others? Are you just smarter and/or braver than others who would be reading this post? My intention was to use reason and logic to convince readers of the supreme importance of voting for life over all other issues.
When will Christians break out of their simple minded Black and White world? Hmn, simple minded Christians; that is not too charitable of a phrase. Maybe you are not 100% Christian after all. About the Black and White world; as an almost 100% Christian you may recall that among the Commandants God gave us is one that says “thou shall not kill.” Is that Black and White enough for you?
I surely do not want to misrepresent the good book. My quote was “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these (Matthew 19:14).” I then added, “I would say abortion is the ultimate hindrance.” You say this quote is vaguely associated with the abortion issue. I was not tying the quote to abortion at all. I was showing how important little children are to the Lord and that abortion prevents children, living human beings, from receiving His blessing. Another hindrance would be if you, as an almost 100% Christian, assuming you have children, would not teach them the truths of Christianity. Abortion is just a permanent hindrance.
You are going to weigh ALL issues? Wow, I guess it was a good thing that the campaign lasted 2 years. Seriously, do ALL issues hold equal importance for you? I would expect not. My point is that out of all the issues there is one, the life issue that should take precedence over all the others. I then go on to explain for Catholics what the Church has always taught in hopes that they would listen to the wisdom of the Church over their own self interests.

Tania,
Do the math. The numbers are are far greater now than when the article was first posted.
Would you feel better if the numbers were only 4,000,000 babies killed? I would not.
